Getting to the Alhambra
The Alhambra starts at the end of the Cuesta Gomérez which is the street which goes up from Plaza Nueva. There have recently been changes to how the Alhambra can be accessed and taxis and buses are no longer allowed up the Cuesta Gomérez. There have also been changes to the bus routes and the buses which go to the Alhambra.
BY BUS:
There are two buses which now go to the Alhambra: the C30 and the C32. Both buses leave from the bus stop behind the statue of Queen Isabel la Católica and Christopher Columbus at the end of the Gran Vía.
The route for the C30 is: PLAZA ISABEL LA CATOLICA - PLAZA FORTUNY - CALLE MOLINOS - AUDITORIO MANUEL DE FALLA / CARMEN DE LOS MARTIRES - ALHAMBRA - PUERTA DE LA JUSTICIA - CALLE MOLINOS - CALLE SANTIAGO - PLAZA SANTO DOMINGO - PLAZA ISABEL LA CATOLICA
The route for the C32 is: PLAZA ISABEL LA CATOLICA - PLAZA FORTUNY - CALLE MOLINOS - AUDITORIO MANUEL DE FALLA / CARMEN DE LOS MARTIRES - ALHAMBRA - PUERTA DE LA JUSTICIA - CALLE MOLINOS - CALLE SANTIAGO - PLAZA SANTO DOMINGO - PLAZA ISABEL LA CATOLICA - PLAZA NUEVA - PASEO DE LOS TRISTES - MIRADOR SAN NICOLAS - PLAZA SANMIGUEL BAJO - ARCO ELVIRA - HOSPITAL REAL - TRIUNFO - GRAN VIA - PLAZA ISABEL LA CATOLICA
ON FOOT:
There are two ways of walking up to the Alhambra: either up the Cuesta Gomerez (which is the street which goes up from Plaza Nueva) and it is approximately 1400 metres or up the Cuesta de los Chinos (the path at the end of Paseo de los Tristes, crossing the last bridge over the River Darro) and this route is approximately 800 metres.
BY TAXI:
The nearest taxi rank is in Plaza Nueva.
BY CAR:
There are four carparks up by the Alhambra and Parking 1 has disabled parking. The access to the Alhambra is to the south-east of the city.
If you are coming from the North (Madrid, Jaán, Almería or Murcia), you will therefore need to follow the Granada ring road (E902/A44) and the signs to Motril. Take Exit 132 (Ronda Sur - Alhambra), keeping to the left. You are now on the A395. Follow this road and get into the left lane when you go through the tunnel. Take Exit 5B and follow the signs to the Alhambra.
If you are coming from the South (Motril), you will need to follow the Granada ring road (E902/A44) and take Exit 132 (Ronda Sur - Alhambra). You are now on the A395. Follow this road and get into the left lane when you go through the tunnel. Take Exit 5B and follow the signs to the Alhambra.
