Audioguides
To make the most of your visit to the Alhambra, it is a good idea to hire an audioguide. These are similar to mobile phones and allow you to enjoy the wonders of the Alhambra while listening to a short description of each numbered point of interest. The narrative is interesting and informative. They are more flexible and cheaper than an organised tour of the Alhambra.
We have not tried the new audio guides introduced in November 2016 but here is a review. The guide has excellent audio quality, and HD display. There is a short video intro, and a choice between 2 or 3 hour audio guide. The guide is organized into separate buildings and gardens. For the 3 hour version, the audio guide at each site inside a building is 2 to 3 minutes in length, accompanied by 6 or so still images. The navigation is intuitive and simple. The English is more like US, and clearly spoken. The description is best appreciated by those who are already familiar with the history.
It is a good idea to hire one audioguide for each person.
They are available in five different languages (Spanish, English, German, Italian and French) and can be hired from the main ticket office or Carlos V Palace. If your batteries run low, they can also be replaced at Carlos V Palace.
They cost 6 euros and you will need to leave a credit card or driving licence as security.
