Good things about accomodation:The Spa baths Elvira was a very recommendable experience! (There may be other similar ones but haven't tried those.)
Complaints about accomodation:We could not find any plates in the kitchen. A cutting board would have been useful also.
Good bars and restaurants:The Italian restaurant Viva Maria! is strongly recommended. Charming whimsical place.
Granadainfo comments:Strange: The plates are in the plate rack, in the cupboard or even in the dishwasher?????

Complaints about accomodation:Everything was perfect and exactly as advertised! Clean and comfortable.
Good bars and restaurants:Flamenco at Jardines de Zoraya
Suggestions:Would be great to have a map of best route to Plaza Nueva. We took off walking in the wrong direction despite our best efforts to Google map it.

Good things about accomodation:Nice and clean. Centrally situated. When ever planning to visit Granada again we will definitely come back.
Suggestions:Going on and off from the haouse we recommend to use bus C1. Also arrival could be done via C1 from Plaza Nueva, from Basilica it is easier to change from bus coming from station.

Good things about accomodation:The unit is very well appointed and had everything that we needed

Good things about accomodation:Plenty of space, lovely outdoor deck, easy communication with owners.
Complaints about accomodation:Just a note to advise potential guests that the nearby streets are quite steep and the location may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
Good bars and restaurants:Play Granada Segway Tours is a fun way to see the Albaycin and Sacremonte. Vinoteca is an excellent little restaurant just off the Plaza Nueva.
Suggestions:Don't forget to book Alhambra tickets well in advance!

Good things about accomodation:The house itself is a lovely holiday home in a great location at a very reasonable price.
Complaints about accomodation:The settee was a tad uncomfy and a lounger on the sun terrace would have great.
Good bars and restaurants:Restaurant Paprika at the bottom of the hill near the Elvira gate is a great Vegan place to eat in a lovely location. Pitl at the top of hill and left is a great little place for meat eaters and a nice place to drink coffee or wine as well .
Suggestions:Take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper as local dogs do bark and mopeds do go up and down the hill. Typically Spanish town noises. Remember in Granada it is typical to get free tapas with a drink (not coffee I don't think) so if you aren't hungry or a vegan/vegetarian it's worth mentioning when you order.

Good things about accomodation:it's a small paradise in the heart of Granada !
Good bars and restaurants:Spanish food is not really good... hence rather cook at home !
Bad experiences in Granada:Not one single bad experience ! Only great ones.
Suggestions:Worth using the Granada Card (found at the Tourism Office), a lot of nice places (other than Alhambra) to discover. Yet not included in this card and worth visiting : Garcia Lorca Center: http://centrofedericogarcialorca.es/ +++ Also : DOBLA DE ORO !! pass to buy in order to make a great tour within Albaicin, and more particularly to visit Palacio de Dar-al-Horra (wich is seen from the terrace of Heminway House).
Granadainfo comments:I don't agree about Spanish food. For example San Miguel bajo is about 7 minutes walk. Try bar Lara. That should change your ideas about Spanish food Here is a guide https://granadamap.com/sanmiguel/

Complaints about accomodation:not one single one ! everything was perfect
Good bars and restaurants:Except obviously the Alhambra, we went to the Sacramonte, very nice walk. But the foods was rather disappointing.
Suggestions:Obviously no suggestion to make, just keep Granada as it is, so beautiful !

Complaints about accomodation:Only minor - bathroom tiles could do with a spruce up!
Good bars and restaurants:Casa Piti is great - good food, wine selection and service. La Mancha Chica Chaoen serves Moroccan food with a really humorous and friendly owner. Free City Waling Tour from "Feel The City"
Bad experiences in Granada:No - eating out is cheap and often free tapas with your drink.

Good things about accomodation:We stayed in Granada for a week. That was enough time to see the highlights, of course including the Alhambra. When you travel through Granada it can be wise to use public transport now an than. Certainly uphill. The C1 takes you to your accommodation for € 0,80 per ride if you purchase a public transport card for € 2,00. Combined with the C2 and C3 you can cover the whole city.
Complaints about accomodation:Hemingway House is perfectly situated. Restaurants, Miradors, public transport, all within a few minutes. And in about 15 minutes downhill you reach te Cathedral. The house is not suitable for people who have difficulty in walking (stairs and streets). For other people it is a good worth for your money and a pleasant place to stay. Furniture and beds could be better but for a short stay they are good enough. When we arrived we made a phonecall and withing 5 minutes someone was there to let us in. The house was cleaned and tidy. Keep in mind that you stay in a busy part of the town. There are allways people and a lot of dogs active at night who will disturb your sleep. Parking your car can sometimes require some skills in the narrow streets and with the limited parking place. When you keep this in mind you will have a wonderfull place to stay in Granada.
Good bars and restaurants:Probably the best thing is to try out another restaurant every night. You will be entertained by street musiscians and have wonderfull views. We liked the El Aji restaurant at San Miguel Bajo, a few minutes from Hemingway House.
Bad experiences in Granada:We had a very good time in Granada. The city and Hemingway house did not disappoint us.

Good things about accomodation:It was good to have a washing machine, dishwasher, freeze/fridge and microwave at hand. The location was of course very good, close to Plaza Larga.
Complaints about accomodation:The TV received no signal from the antenna, which was annoying as we were in Granada to improve our Spanish.
Good bars and restaurants:The walk to the Museo de las cuevas del Sacromonte (and the museum itself) were for us the highlight of our 3-week stay.
Granadainfo comments:After reading this we investigated the TV and found that the antenna had fallen out of the TV. It is frustrating that we are available 24/7 to help you and you did not contact us and also we pay a lot of money for all those channels to then learn that you could even use them just because the antenna had dropped out.

Good things about accomodation:Hemingway House was ideal as we were all travelling on a budget but like to cook so we self catered almost exclusively. It was great to be able to come home each night from busy days out and use the excellent kitchen. I advise strongly hiring a car to really explore the beautiful region around Granada that is after you have seen the Alhambra -unforgettable.
Suggestions:Get out and explore the countryside - it is beautiful

Good things about accomodation:Couldn't have ask for a better location - right in the heart of the Albaicin, the old district of Granada. Spent many happy hours getting lost and discovering beautiful houses, alleyways and square in the area.
Complaints about accomodation:Stairs are steep - a handrail, especially at the top, would help those who are not so steady on their feet.
Good bars and restaurants:Bars and restaurants in Plaza Larga (just up the hill from the house) good for dinner and morning coffee. Bar Lara in Plaza San Miguel Bajo was our favourite - excellent food, service and complementary Baileys :) Excellent bakery in side street off Panaderos (just beyond Plaza Larga) Flamenco at Le Chien Andalou in the Carrera del Darro was good and much cheaper than anywhere else. Excellent chocolate and churros at bar in Plaza Nueva (also had cooling mist which was a god-send in the heat of the day). The Alhambra was fabulous - best to buy tickets online in advance during the high season to avoid disappointment (and to avoid the queues from 7am).
Bad experiences in Granada:Dinner at bar in Plaza Ortegas wasn't so good (and was more expensive than Plaza Larga).
Suggestions:Overall a fantastic week in a beautiful location with friendly and helpful locals, great food, fantastic scenery, and wonderful weather :)

Good things about accomodation:The Albaicin area in which the house is located is an amazing place to explore. It is ideally situated for a lovely walk to the Alhambra and the mirador viewpoints are a must see. The Morrocan area just off the Calle de Elvira makes a nice detour back to Hemingway house.
Complaints about accomodation:The accommodation had everything we needed for a comfortable week in Granada. Air conditioning would have been a blessing due to the extremely hot nights. The only niggle was that the bathroom door was quite awkward to open.
Good bars and restaurants:We purchased combined tickets for the Alhambra and the Acosta Foundation. The Acosta building is truly stunning and is well worth the extra couple of euros on the price of the ticket. You are taken on a tour with a very knowledgeable guide who explains the art and architecture of the buildings and gardens. Not many people seem to be aware of this place, but it is so worth a visit. You also dont have to visit the foundation on the same day as the Alhambra - we went the day before.

Good things about accomodation:great location . very friendly area. the albacin felt like it had a strong local community and travelers were warmly welcomed
Complaints about accomodation:the overall standard was excellent. it was a little noisy late at night and early morning with people passing but we appreciate its an urban environment.
Good bars and restaurants:we would recommend the ice cream place at the top of the road in the square - good breakfasts also. and the bar /restauarant next door to it opp the entrance to the albacin . Bar aixa also did good food but the bar next door we think was very poor - owned by an overbearing Spanish lady. we all enjoyed the hammam and just wandering in the albacin. pizza metro did great pizza ! generally we found Granada to be great value
Bad experiences in Granada:as above the bar next to the bar aixa had awful food
Suggestions:definitely recommend the icecream bar for great coffee and toast early morning. (and ice cream )

Good things about accomodation:Every thing is great : the location, the house, the way it is decorated and furnished, the terrasse, the big fridge and the washing machine ... You feel at home.
Complaints about accomodation:The room on the street is a little noisy at night even if the street is not that busy. If you are a light sleeper this may be a problem. There is a double gazled window but it is useless : when people pass by it is almost possible to hear what they are saying..
Good bars and restaurants:Bar Lara on Plaza San Miguel is a very good and affordable place to eat outside : good food and friendly staff. On plazza larga there is a resturant recommanded by the "guide du routard" but we don't recommand it.
Suggestions:Don't miss the market on plazza larga on the morning and the shops around : fishmonger, backery ...

Good things about accomodation:We were immediately impressed with the location, character and presentation of the house. Exactly as shown in the photos. Beds were comfy and nice to be greeted and to have washing up liquid, loo roll and free reliable wifi supplied. Thank you, we would certainly recommend this house to friends.
Good bars and restaurants:Walking around the neighbour-hood, morning coffee and cakes at the top of the road, shopping for fresh bread, lovely fruit and groceries around the Plaza Larga. Breakfast on the balcony. We ate most evening meals on the Plaza. The mirador above the house (San Cristobal) looking north and the one overlooking the Alhambra were great. The souk area (Calle Caldereria Nueva) was lovely for shopping and Moroccan tea. Also liked the road beside the Darro River. Your website was excellent.
Bad experiences in Granada:No. We would advise people turn their cars around outside the house rather than try to drive through the narrow streets above if they don't want to risk damaging their (hire) cars. We (just) got away with it!
Granadainfo comments:Just go up the road 200 metres. Use the road on the left as an easy turning space for a 3 point turn You can actually turn left and get out that way but it is very narrow.

Good things about accomodation:The house is very well located, in an interesting part of town and easy walking to most places (about 30 min to the Alhambra on foot).

Good things about accomodation:The accommodation is very well equipped and in an interesting location. It was great to have the choice of three terraces - one on which to eat and soak up the sun, one on which to cool down and the other to put out the washing. The local bus service is excellent. Do take note of the steep hill to Hemingway House. We arrived by train and thought the walk to the property would be beneficial. Pulling a suitcase behind him in the heat was an experience my husband would not want to repeat and he is very fit! Take a taxi. On the subject of taxis - many thanks to John and Sarah for organising an early morning taxi on our day of departure.
Complaints about accomodation:We have no complaints at all.
Good bars and restaurants:Bar Lara in San Miguel Bajo was our favourite restaurant. The vegetarian options were very good. Visiting the Alhambra via the road named 'Chapiz' means you avoid walking through the City Centre and the worse of the crowds. Sacromonte is well worth a visit as is the Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte - don't be put off by the entrance fee.
Suggestions:Sensible footwear is a must.
Granadainfo comments:The third terraza is not officially part of the house but you can use it.

Complaints about accomodation:May be a set of drawers in the bedroom for small items etc would be useful.

Good things about accomodation:Generally we liked the accommodation, and the location is very good, unfortunately the weather was not very good when we were there, so we couldn't take advantage of the outside spaces.
Complaints about accomodation:We found the street a little noisy. It was disappointing to find a suitcase full of clothes under the double bed and a dead cockroach outside the bathroom door, which gave an impression that the cleaning was not very thorough.
Granadainfo comments:I am sorry but in May there is often an occasioanl cockroach. It was dead because it had eaten the bait from the roach traps. Cockroaches fly. If cockroaches is a major trauma you should not come to Granada between March and November. I defy anyone including a 5 star hotel which can guarantee that there are no cockroaches. The suitcase is ski equipment belonging to the owner.

Good things about accomodation:Good location. Nice terraces. Good breeze in the evening. The clothes drying rack was very helpful!
Complaints about accomodation:It was pretty comfortable and in a good location. The a previous guest or two seems to have left luggage full of clothes under the bed. The couches need to be updated I think. This was a minor issue. We enjoyed our stay.
Good bars and restaurants:We liked acebucho in plaza San Miguel. Maria was nice. It was slow but the food was simple and good after days of heavy flavors.
Bad experiences in Granada:Just typical stuff. Vendors trying to pass off items as artisan that were clearly manufactured and available everywhere.
Suggestions:Sunset. Watch it from dear plaza San Miguel. Watch it every day.
Granadainfo comments:There is a suitcase under the bed which belongs to the owner who lives in London.

Good things about accomodation:We liked the accomodation, with two floors and the terrace.
Good bars and restaurants:Flamenco in Sacremento, the market up the hill and Alhambra of course.
Bad experiences in Granada:The recident across the street got our car towed away, the front wheels was less than 0.5 m in the yellow crossed square, othervise we only meet friendly and kind people.
Granadainfo comments:The yellow zone in front of the house is for the disabled neighbour. It is important that he can have access and can park near to his house. You can load and unload in the space if he is not there.

Good things about accomodation:The area where the house is located is wonderful. The Albayzin is packed with colour and has some great bars and restaurants
Complaints about accomodation:The woman who welcomed us to the house was less than friendly - we got the distinct idea that she was in a hurry to be somewhere else.
Good bars and restaurants:We would recommend avoiding Calle Elvira like the plague. The Caracoles tapas bar in the Plaza Aliatar is great as is the restaurant Al Aji
Bad experiences in Granada:The supermarket on the Calle Elvira regularly overcharged for beer.
Suggestions:Get fit! The hill on which the house is situated would test an Ibex it is so steep.
Granadainfo comments:She was in a hurry to go somewhere else. There was another arrival in another house. When there are 2 simultaneous arrivals she would have handed over the keys quickly to avoid the other people having to wait. Sorry. It is best to go to the supermarket 150 metres up the road on the left it is nearer and the beer is cheap.

Good things about accomodation:This is the second time we have stayed at the Hemingway House. Although not suitable for small children in the experimental crawling phase(steep stairs and a drop down the stairwell behind a bench seat)for adults visiting Granada it is ideal.
Good bars and restaurants:Although the local shops are fine the main food market is splendid - especially for fresh fish.

Good things about accomodation:The Hemingway house is full a charm that reflects the city of Granada and the old neighborhood. One of our favorite parts of the stay was enjoying our meals on the patio with the old city wall in front of us. The enclosed patio down stairs was charming and my son loved playing ball down here. The upper patio with the clothes line worked quite well. In the summer heat, clothes dried very quickly. The owners had a very helpful map of the neighbourhood that showed the location of nearby grocery stores, restaurants, and other useful bits of information.
Complaints about accomodation: An air conditioner in the room would have been nice for the hot summer night. We still thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Good bars and restaurants:La Porrona had decent menus. We thoroughly enjoyed walking the streets and taking in the sites. Little Morocco is a lively place to grab a tea; Plaza San Nicolas has spectacular views of the Alhambra and there were guitar players at times adding to the atmosphere; La Cueva had very good food. I truly enjoyed preparing food at home and enjoying our patio. Visiting the Alhambra is a must and taking the walk from Plaza Nueva is beautiful.

Good things about accomodation:Hemingway House was wonderful. It had everything we needed, as well as an authentic Spanish feel. The location is great - you can walk out the door and be in amongst the winding cobblestone streets and charming plazas, and an it's an easy walk down to the main street of Granada. John and Sarah were very helpful and lovely to deal with.
Complaints about accomodation:It can be a bit difficult to open the front gate
Good bars and restaurants:We really enjoyed going back to the Alhambra a second time for a more leisurely stroll around the Generalife gardens (only 8E). The segway tour is really fun and the Hammam Al Andalus baths are fabulous.
Bad experiences in Granada:no, it was all good. I think we narrowly escaped a bad experience by saying no very firmly to a woman being very persistent with a piece of rosemary near the cathedral.

Best Restaurant is La Higuera, tucked away but worth the effort to find it.Very friendly, helpful and delicious food. Bar Lara in San Miguel Bajo Plaza had very good food and very good service.

Good things about accomodation:I liked the location in the Albaicin - the old part of Granada. This was on a cobbled hill, set in a warren of old streets and houses. The 400 metre walk to the top of Alhacaba led to the iconic view across the Rio Darro to the Alhambra, and the Sierra Nevada beyond. This is particularly stunning right around sunset, and hence popular. There were sometimes itinerant musicians there, who contributed well to the atmosphere. You should take care to reward their contribution to the culture. The plaza at the top of the hill serves alternately as a vegetable market, a general knick-knacks market, or outdoor restaurant space. There was some sort of life going on there every day.
Complaints about accomodation: While traffic on Cuesta de Alhacaba is quite sparse, it does echo loudly off the walls and cobbled street. This was most noticeable in the main bedroom, up till about midnight. I would suggest double glazing of the two windows in that room.
Good bars and restaurants:We appreciated the cooking facilities in the apartment and shopped regularly in the various branches of Coviran, actually an Andalucian co-operative group. We were always surprised to walk out with a satisfying bag of goods, having spent less than in any US grocery store. Indeed, Coviran was cheaper than the Carrefour supermarket situated near the train station.
Bad experiences in Granada:A couple of times we ate in the various tourist restaurants in the Plaza Nueva. The waiting staff had a tendency towards being grumpy. In one of them you could order the same dish from the Spanish or English menus: as 'potato tortilla' it was 7 euros, but in the Tapas menu as 'tortilla de patatas' it was 4.35 euros. Be aware.
Suggestions:It's good to come her with the attitude that you should do a lot of walking: around town, in the Albaicin, up behind the Sacromonte, and over to the Alhambra. But really the bus service all around town is excellent, with smaller buses servicing the windier streets. Carry a pocket full of small change, and a single trip anywhere is 1.20 euro.

Good things about accomodation:We had a lovely 5 nights in Granada. The accomodation was great. I enjoyed all the exercise walking up and down the hills. Thankyou for the use of the haridryer. The Alhambra was amazing, and the tips re booking ahead very useful.
Good bars and restaurants:We enjoyed the coffee and cakes at San fernandos.
Bad experiences in Granada:Read the sight about visiting the Alhambra thoroughly, and make sure you take note of the time to visit the Alhambra and the time to visit the Palace. When we were waiting for our timeslot for the Palace a number of people didn't realise they had a set time to visit it and had entered the Alhambra at the time allocated for the Palace.

Good things about accomodation:The apartment is unique and very nicely decorated. We loved the terrace with the view of the old wall. Information on local amenities and buses was provided as well. Plaza Larga up the hill has a whole range of great shops.
Complaints about accomodation:The street can be a little noisy at times.
Good bars and restaurants:We had our 3-year old with us so we didn't get out to many bars, but for kids we would recommend Parque de las Ciencias (an easy bus trip) and the playground at Parque Federico Garcia Lorca (about a 5€ taxi ride). Obviously Alhambra and the Cathedral are well worth visiting, but another hidden gem is Palacio de Dar al-Horra, which you can see just over the wall from the apartment. It's a bit tricky to find, and isn't open every day, but it's beautiful, and free!

Good things about accomodation:The location is very close to the Albaicin quarter and most of the other tourist areas are within easy walking distance but the area is very hilly and all cobbled streets so not one for the anyone who is particularly infirm.
Good bars and restaurants:The resturaunt Carmen Mirador del Aixa, near to Mirador San Nicholas, serves excellent food and has a beautiful view of the Alhambra at night. But it is fairly expensive. There is also a superb Tapas and cafe bar on the Elvira.
Bad experiences in Granada:When parking on the street outside do not overlap the yellow hatched areas at all, if they complain you WILL be towed away. I was lucky and managed to persuade the police not to take it away.
Granadainfo comments:The hatched parking is especially for the neighbour who is disabled. If it is empty when you arrive it is very convenient to park there while you unload but you mustn't block the space otherwise the neighbour can't get to his house.

Good things about accomodation:Apartment is situated in the most beautiful part of Grenada. House has all accomodation that you need for comfortable living. We truly recomend this house for all people who wants to spend pleasant vacation .
Complaints about accomodation:Only more light in a living room.
Good bars and restaurants:We were satisfade with school of spanish language Delengua and school of flamenco at the same school. We cannot say what restaurante or bar is the best, because all of them are very pleasant with good food.
Bad experiences in Granada:In Spain we had not any problem, because spanish people are very kind and lovely.

Bad experiences in Granada:The hop-on hop-off tour with the red tourist bus was very disappointing. We would not recommend to to this trip.
Suggestions:To buy a bono turistico at the bank "caja granada" was very usefull: including all entrance fees for alhambra and generalife, cathedral, capilla real, monasterio san jeronimo, monasterio de la cartuja, parque de las ciencias, museos bellas artes, museo arqueologico and bus publico.

Good things about accomodation:Fabulous location! After touring all of Granada, we felt like we had chosen the best location in terms of "character". We also had easy access to the Sacromonte, and a reasonable walk to the Alhambra. There were no hotels in the neighborhood, but plenty of good restaurants, which made it special. We did not mind the walk up the hill each day, we appreciated the exercise (in fact, despite all of the eating and drinking I did, I lost 2 pounds!) The apartment was exactly as advertised, with plenty of room, a fabulous bathroom, and a great view. John and Sara were both very helpful and pleasant. We definitely plan to go back!
Complaints about accomodation:None.
Good bars and restaurants:JARDINES DE ZORAYA right up the street from the apartment. Also highly recommend the Arab Baths in Granada (Hamman Al-Andalusia).
Suggestions:Granada exceeded my expecations, it had everything: food, wine, incredible scenery and architecture, great weather, warm people - and all at a very reasonable price!

Good things about accomodation:The place was very large and comfortable. The terrace was terrific and really enjoyable. The wifi was great. There's a huge library of DVD's which is perfect for lazy days in. All the appliances worked fine. Detergent for the washing machine and dish washer was provided.
Complaints about accomodation:We booked this place hoping to use the hot tub. We tried repeatedly but there was never enough hot water. I read a response to another review saying it's because of the cold water coming from outside. Even on warm days, it couldn't fill it. and it's during the cold days that I would want to use a hot tub. So basically the hot tub was unusable. Also, when we looked under the bed, we found a bag along with some ski equipment. This really shouldn't have been taken out.
Granadainfo comments:The hot water tank is 150 litres which is massive for an apartment for 4. We never describe the large bath as a hot tub. It is a very large bath which can fit 2 people but you will never be able to fill it to the top. You can fill it to a few inches above the nozzles. See the photo on the main page. Please note: The large bath IS NOT A JACUZZI NOR A HOT TUB. It was a jacuzzi but the pumps were deactivated because it is possible to manually over-ride the safety mechanism. If an accident had happened it wouldn't have been our fault but we would have been responsible.

Good things about accomodation:The accommodation was very typically andalucian and decorated throughout to capture the atmosphere. Enhances the stay. Granada is a really cool city, love returning to it on a regular basis.
Complaints about accomodation:It also took some time to figure out that the hob was a touchscreen type and not the redundant controls underneath. Perhaps instructions? Or removal of the old controls?
Good bars and restaurants:The contrast between the oppulence of the Cathedral and the dedication of the painters who decorated the Monastario de St Jeronimo. The restaurant El Ladrillo II, Plazoleta de Fatima. Excellent, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and everyone should try the Transatlantico .... simple, rustic food at a reasonable price. Bad experiences in Granada:As any other place, you are bound to find rude people, but we also had the fortune to meet some wonderful and helpful people. In regards to the house, it is located in a steep hill. I loved the location, but the walk up to the house was intense!
Suggestions:Bring a cell phone that is not locked so you can replace the phone's SIM card with a local SIM card. Also be ready to walk, walk, and walk. If you would like to visit La Alhambra, buy your tickets online and in advance. I had never seen a place so big like the Alhambra be sold out.

Complaints about accomodation:No complaints.
Good bars and restaurants:A short walk up the hill was a delightful little shopping centre with a real fishmonger, baker, butcher etc. This is a real plus if you are self catering. I know that they bought fresh sardines and barbecued them.
Bad experiences in Granada:No, none. The Albaicin is very safe these days.

Good things about accomodation:We were VERY happy with the apartment -- so many thoughtful little touches, everything from providing olive oil, cooking oil and vinegar, to making sure the bathroom was nice and warm when we arrived. Much appreciated!
Good bars and restaurants:There is a nice market up at the top of the hill (Plaza Larga) in the mornings which sells excellent fruit and vegetables. We also enjoyed the bakery - which sells northern European-style darker bread - which is on the small street leading out of Plaza Larga (away from the downhill slope), just across from the second (self-service) Coviran.
Bad experiences in Granada:No - on the contrary, we got stuck in Granada during the volcano and were impressed with how kind and resourceful people were in helping us to make alternative arrangements to leave.

Good things about accomodation:Local buses are very good, shops and plenty to see and do.
Complaints about accomodation:A handrail on the exterior steps would be a good idea, as they are slippery when wet!
Good bars and restaurants:Jardines de Zoraya (Albaicin) is very good if you wish to see live Flamenco dancing (which is free. The menu is good and not too expensive. el Aji (Albaicin) has a more refined menu but although more expensive than Jardines de Zoraya is still good value. We used the tourist bus 48Hr ticket and rode the entire route to get an idea of what we wanted to see, you can catch this bus outside the Cathederal, the ticket seller was very helpful, buses pickup from stops every half hour.
Bad experiences in Granada:We experienced no problems everyone was very nice and welcoming, although most waiters, you shouldn't take it that everyone can speak English,so brush up on your Spanish to make your experience smoother. Watch out for the gypsy women outside the Cathederal selling Rosemary, although harmless they tend to grab hold of your arm, just ignore them and keep walking (they won't put a curse on you)!
Suggestions:Rather than getting off the airport bus outside the Cathederal it is better to get off at the stop before Gran Via Centro) as it is nearly opposite the Hemmingway (although still 10 min walk up the hill). If you do get off at the Cathederal it will take about 20 mins walking.

Good things about accomodation:Perfect location. great heating for a winter trip-the first time i have been to spain in the mid winter and been warm.upstairs is great and a nice bathroom.
Complaints about accomodation:There was not enough hot water to fill that lovely bath.
Granadainfo comments:The water tank is 175 litres at around 65C. (any hotter would risk scalding) The norm for a 6 person apartment is 75-100 litres. It could be that the temperature during you stay was very cold so that the water coming in from the street was very cold which cooled the hot water down more than normal when it was mixed. 175 litres of water at 65C mixed with 175 litres of water at 5C would result in 350 litres of water at 35C which is a good temperature for a bath. If the temperature of the mains water was 10C then there would be 385 litres. I imagine that the temperature of the mains water in Granada fluctuates between 5C and 15C during the year. However if you really enjoy bathing there are several places which may be of interest to you on this page

Also the gate and door security was good. The Alhambra is magnificent, a wonder of the world, and it is very clean and well and efficiently operated.
Complaints about accomodation:We have no complaints about Hemingway House.
Good bars and restaurants:JARDINES DE ZORAYA for a nice meal and excellent flamenco. Well worth it.
Bad experiences in Granada:Graffiti and dog droppings on the streets of the Albaicin.
Suggestions:Granada is a great place to holiday and the Alhambra could not be better. Maybe a daily high pressure water hose of the Alabaicin cobbles (maybe on the back of the 31/32 buses?) to deal with the dog droppings problem would improve Albaicin cleanliness.

Complaints about accomodation:Overall it was good but the two single beds were not firm enough for us.
Good bars and restaurants:Just wondering around taking in the atmosphere. The Albaycin is worth seeing and we had no 'dodgy' experiences in the backstreets. Some great grafitti, especially around the 'mini-alhambra' you can see from the hemingway house terrace. The teteria As Sirat on Placeta de la Charca was lovely. Granadainfo comments:Although the top terrace is not officially part of the house and does not appear on the website there is a key near to the door on the ledge which leads up to it. Complaints about accomodation:No manuals in evidence to work out how to operate halogen hob, dishwasher, oven/grill but owners responded quickly to our comments and were very helpful.
Suggestions:We chose to hire a car for the week, which we left parked outside. But it really wasn't worth the cost, as getting in and out of the city was a bit hairy, and we were anxious about the hire car getting damaged in the street (which it did a bit). Everything is within walking distance, and if you don't want to walk there's an excellent bus service, so don't bother with a car.

Good things about accomodation:Loved the Arabic/Moorish and Flamenco touches everywhere in the house. The Painting in passage on the way to the bedroom is to die for!Living in the Albaicin just added to the depth of antiquity you feel while in Granada. Make sure you have a car with narrow hips to fit through those streets! And do do the bus ride on 31/32/34!!Good luck navigating a car ( especially if for you like us it is the wrong side of the road!), but try to get out to the Alpujarras and the Sierra. Even though it looks like you far out of town - the centre is a hop, skip and jump away - and if the night bus can't bring you back and those legs quiver at the thought of that hill - just hail a cab...Don't miss the vibrant 'flea markets'. Being there during the Dance and Music festival was an added bonus to see top artists perform in this city
Complaints about accomodation:It's a pity the water jets in the bath have been disabled, that would only have increased the romance aspect!
Good bars and restaurants:Alhambra,Alhambra,Alhambra - but pre - book on internet and give yourself @ least 2 hrs there. Drive out to the Alpujarras and Sierra or even Malaga area if you've never been there you need to cool off in the sea!
Bad experiences in Granada:No. Everything was Purrrrrfect!Just scary driving in the Albaicin and Sacromonte areas thanks to narrow streets, excess on vehicle insurance if damaged AND navigating the circumvalacion was interesting !
Suggestions:Thanks John for the very useful info leaflet and advice on how to get there (on net). Great Place -not sure what your others are like, makes me wonder!!I really have very little to say -it was a wonderful end to our holiday

Good things about accomodation:The wifi was a very useful extra. The terrace was very nice. Info on restaurants and transport much appreciated.
Complaints about accomodation:Please provide basic supplies--bath soap, dish soap. We had to buy these.
Good bars and restaurants:La Plateria flamenco--supposedly for members only but open to tourists for thurs eve show. Excellent italian/spanish restaurant in the Plaza San Miguel Bajo -- can\'t recall the name. Get the Secreto del Cerdo Ibierico!
Bad experiences in Granada:We found the much recommended El Yunque to have chilly waiters and overpriced, completely mediocre food. It appears they are riding on too many mentions in guidebooks.
Suggestions:The Bono Touristico is a good value and you can use it to book your Alhambra visit. You buy it online and pick it up during bank hours (with your reservation number and the credit card used to make the booking) at the plaza isabella de la catolica (across the plaza from from the BBVA). Make sure it is not a bank holiday! info here There was a lovely shop with local wines, olive oil, preserves, cheeses, ham, etc very close to the apt on the corner with Elvira. They have a happy hour and appetizers in the evenings.
