Good things about accomodation:Loved the house. Perfect for independent types who like privacy, peace and quiet in the middle of the Albaicin. Absolutely everything one needed.
Complaints about accomodation:No complaints! But your warning about the ability to climb steps is VERY necessary.
Good bars and restaurants:El Ladrillo II, Calle Panaderos, 13 Albaicin, Granada Fastastic fish for reasonable prices
Suggestions:All in all one of the best holidays we\'ve been on!

Good things about accomodation:This is to let you know we much enjoyed our stay in Boadil. It has a terrific location, great views, and is a nice place to stay. We had a good time walking round the city, and our legs have been strengthened as a result.
Bad experiences in Granada:The only problem we had was trying to get a taxi back to the airport when the city centre had been closed to traffic due to a festival!

Good things about accomodation:The house is very charming and it is situated in a fabolous part of the city with a short walk to get downtown.
Complaints about accomodation:The sofa in the livingroom was not particularly comfortable. The knives in the kitchen were not very sharp.

Good things about accomodation:We loved the courtyard and it provided us with great family times together. We also appreciated the childens book of Irvings Tales of the Alhambra from the library in the house, as a quick way to get the atmosphere and history of Granada. Please thank Elizabeth and her friend who met us late at night in the Peso de Harina to show us the way and thanks for the preparation of the cot and other things for the baby.
Complaints about accomodation:The internet could not be connected
Good bars and restaurants:We made multiple visits to the gelato bar in the Plaza Nueva.
Suggestions:Thank you for the tip to pre book the Alhambra tickets. We thought that saved a lot of waiting around for a large group with a baby. We also pre booked a shuttle taxi with a baby seat for our arrival at the airport. The plane was over an hour late and it was nearly 11pm when we arrived and it was great to have the taxi waiting.
Granadainfo comments:I have recently change the modem to an ovislink which keeps the conexion very well if the internet doe not work switch off all the power at the fuse box and turn it back on again (this will reset the modem) If anything does not work during your stay phone 958 20 88 92 on the phone in the house. The phone call is free.

Good things about accomodation:The accommodation was fantastic and superbly located with a stunning view of the Alhambra. An exceptionally clean house with very good facilities. The garden terrace at night added to the magical experience, as the sounds of the nearby flamenco clubs created the perfect auditory backdrop to the visual treat. The air conditioning was absolutely vital and made the warm nights more comfortable.
Good bars and restaurants:There were many welcoming cafes and bars that served excellent and reasonably priced food and drink. The staff in all the establishments we visited were very welcoming, especially to our three children (who said that I must mention La Fuente cafe/bar - The Fountain was a source of great fun and provided a 'cooling off' area for them). The Swimming Pool at the University was excellent; a short walk from the centre and a good way to keep cool during the day when temperatures were up to 40 degrees. The home of Tapas did not disappoint and there were numerous bars and cafes offering excellent fare.
Bad experiences in Granada:The worst experience was having to leave. A cliche perhaps, but the genuine feeling of all the family. Your heart will remain in Granada far longer than the duration of your stay.
Suggestions:It is important to have a basic grasp of Spanish before visiting. The locals were very friendly we found, but even more so when we attempted to converse in Spanish.

Good things about accomodation:Boabdil house is a really charming accomodation in Albaycin and we liked it very much.We have been there 3 times and we hope to come again. Sarah and John were very helpful, if something did not work, they took care about immediatelly.
Complaints about accomodation:We were only 2 persons in 2 bedrooms. For us was Boabdil house ideal.
Good bars and restaurants:We cannot recommend a special restaurant in Granada, except perhaps FresCo via Colon 28,which is a self service buffet restaurant, where you can get a large selection of really fresh salads.the main courses are pizza, pasta and so on, but those are not so amazing. You pay about 9 Euros for this, bread, one drink, dessert and coffee included. Our favourite bakery is panaderia Maria in calle de panaderos in Albaycin. In the same street we had our breakfeast at the bar Monica, white coffee tostada mantequila mermelada or tomate aceite, this is toasted bread roll with butter and jam or tomato and oil.costs 1€ each.
Suggestions:1 tip:for going by bus take a "tarjeta",the price is about 2 euros once , but you get 7 tickets for 5 euros instead of 1, 1 euros for one ticket,so if you stay in Granada for a longer time or you plan to come again like us you will save money.

Good things about accomodation:Beautiful little garden area with table and chairs to watch the sun go down from. Overall a magical city with loads to explore.
Good bars and restaurants:Despite our concerns about eating in a place so close to views of the Alhambra (thinking we might receive the full tourist treatment), Restaurante Azafran (Paseo del Padre Manjon no1 (paseo de los Tristes)), was a real treat. With a wide selection of imaginative meals, it was difficult to choose what to have. Really delicious, unusual salads and cous cous dishes and olive oil ice cream if you haven\'t eaten enough olives already! The whole meal only cost around 35 euros for 2, inc a few drinks, and it felt like a much more expensive treat than that - in the UK you would pay through the roof for similar meals.
Bad experiences in Granada:We were cautious after all the warnings about bag snatching etc in this area but we took the usual precautions and had no trouble.
Suggestions:We wished we'd taken a bumbag or similar to avoid carrying a handbag or stuffing things in our pockets. Obvious advice but take comfy shoes, all the paths around here are cobbly and hilly! The market in the San Nicolas area is great and cheap, if you decide to do some home cooking.

Good things about accomodation:the owners have really gone out of their way to provide everything needed for a comfortable stay. the view is amazing from the boabdil house. i would like to take my family back there within the next couple of months if it is not booked up.
Good bars and restaurants:granada is a beautiful city and the boabdil house is in a perfect spot. all the bars and restaurants we visited were very nice. the nasrid palace at the alhambra is superb. there are some great bodegas off the gran via de colon.
Bad experiences in Granada:"la bella y la bestia" bar charged us €4 for a large beer. it was the first place we tried. the next bar "the minotaur" charged €2.20 which was much more humane!
Granadainfo comments:Where I drink they only charge 1.50 for a tubo (pronounced 2 bo) 330cl Not many people drink pints unless you go to an Irish pub like Hannigans. Spanish beer is at least 4.5% alcohol so it is quite strong. It's best to drink cañas (250cl) because you will get the same sized tapa per drink.

Good things about accomodation:The house, very reasonably priced, in a gorgeous part of Granada, and within walking distance of the Alhambra, is a very comfortable 'home away from home, particularly welcome after a few weeks traveling and staying in hotels. It was lovely to have free access to a washing machine, internet and telephone, as well as a functional basic kitchen. The location of the house, in a normal residential area rather than in a block of other holiday apartments, close to local shops and restaurants, was also great. We were able to have a more realistic experience of living in Spain that way. The outdoor terrace, with wonderful views of the Alhambra was fantastic, providing a pleasant place to relax and unwind after a busy day of sight seeing, or to eat 'al fresco'.

Good things about accomodation:We appreciated your excellent website and the laminated sheets with specific instructions. We loved the location. All the guide books suggest visits to the Albayzin as second only to the Alhambra, but we were in it. We explored it all and loved all the exercise as much as the adventure of finding our way home among twisting streets. Thanks for sharing such a fun place.

Good things about accomodation:We really loved Boabdil House. The location was perfect for our family. I was with my wife, my mother, and my three children, aged 15,21,and 26. I didn't realize we would be so close, within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to do. We had tea right in Peso Harina, walked to the Alhambra easily for our 10:30 appointment, an easy walk uphill to the Mirador at St Nicolas for the sunset, and a Gypsy Flamenco show right next door, (down on the street on Sacramonte). The owners are very thoughtful and extremely descriptive of all you need to know about the neighborhood, in their handouts and information on the web. They have good advice; pay close attention to what they say. The kitchen was really well set up, using the space very efficiently. There's a nice view of the Alhambra, day and night, from the terrace at the house. The rooms and beds are comfortable and it's quiet at night. Internet access was nice. Heating worked well in the winter. My 15 year old son says this was the best place we stayed of 8 hotels and apartments in Spain. We would definitely stay here again, when returning to Granada.
Good bars and restaurants:We got some really tastey kebabs, like gyro sandwiches, going down Chapiz street and taking a right on Paseo de Padre Manjon, a couple of blocks down on the right hand side. Going to the Mirador at San Nicolas for the sunset an action is a must! Really nice tea at the restaurant in Peso Harina. We enjoyed the heartfelt Gypsy Flamenco show at Las Tarantas, right next door on Sacramonte. Sat so close their dresses were brushing our legs and we had to move our feet not to get stamped on!
Bad experiences in Granada:No. No one took advantage of us. Teresa was helpful getting into the house and we felt the owners of Boabdil House were accessible and available for questions, and advice.
Suggestions:It would be nice to have little containers of shampoo in the house. When traveling on plane nowadays it's more difficult to carry these kinds of items. The owner was very helpful in making suggestions about the kind of place we might like to stay, concerned about my mother being able to make it up the hill and the steps. She got along fine and loved the house and stay! The bus system makes getting around Granada easy.

Good things about accomodation:The kitchen was very well equipt and the beds were very cosy and comfortable. The views from the garden are lovely and the apartment itself is really well placed for getting around. We'd love to come back when the weather is nicer as we experienced quite a lot of rain - but it was snowing in the UK!
Good bars and restaurants:We loved some of the bars on Calle Elvira - Bodegas Castañeda was amazing, full of local people enjoying food and tapas, Bodega la Antigualla was the friendliest place and were we given amazing amounts of food, ham & cheese toasted rolls and chips with each drink! We visited Kasbah for Arabic tea and gorgeous crepes. Obviously the Alhambra was the highlight and we did have a morning of sunshine which brought the place to life, but I think our visit to Aljibe de San Miguel Arab Baths was a close second. We went at 4pm and had the whole place to ourselves, there are 7 pools of varying temperatures, candle lit, aromatherapy massages, mint tea, bliss.
Bad experiences in Granada:Our lack of Spanish sometimes made things a little difficult and some of the bus drivers weren't overly helpful, but that has only inspired me to make an affort and take Spanish classes!

Good things about accomodation:English estate aways say that the 3 most important things about a house are: position, position and position. This house has all three. Close to Alhambra and a fresh fish shop.
Complaints about accomodation:Shoot the owners of the 'smelly dog'. It certainly didn't affect our stay, but why not take it for a walk.
Good bars and restaurants:Didn't use restaurants, but fresh prawns, tuna and swordfish steaks on the BBQ with evening views of the Alhambra are superior. Great fish shop - and so friendly

Complaints about accomodation:There was a washing machine but no laundry detergent and not enough toilet paper.
Suggestions:If you pre-book a Night Visit, for the Alhambra make sure to pick up the tickets before 7pm.
Granadainfo comments:If you ask on arrival we will give you a cupful of concentrated liquid detergent from the store. The cleaner is instructed to leave (additionally to what is in the holder) 1 spare roll for 2 people and 2 spare rolls if there are more people. For the majority of people this is enough for 2 days. For longer stays or for more prolific users you may have to buy some toilet paper from the supermarket.

Good things about accomodation:The apartment was ideal. It felt safe, secure, had a fabulous view and was much closer to everything than we had expected. The free wifi was very helpful and everything we needed was in the apartment (although washing up liquid on arrival would have been helpful). We would certainly recommend Boabdil.
Complaints about accomodation:Everything was great. However some previous occupants had not really washed up that well and had put the plates away in the cupboard with some food scraps on so we had to wash them when we first arrived. Perhaps the people cleaning could check that things in the cupboard are clean for the next occupants.
Good bars and restaurants:We had an absolutely magical evening at Terraza les Tomasos (I think that's it)overlooking the Alhambra. A great restaurant and so close to the apartment. Also fabulous flamenco at the Pena Club (also only about 3 mins walk once you find it! And of course the Alhambra....what joy........

Good things about accomodation:House clean quiet comfortable and well supplied. Garden charming and private with view of Alhambra. Location ideal. Security very good. Comunication with owners using the free phone was excellent and they helped us with how to use mini buses plus they booked a local taxi for our retun journey to airport. The local market at the top of the hill in Plaza Larga very good for cheap excellent produce and the local supermarked very good also cheap. the fish from local shop in same area was fresh and delicious. The house is situated in beutifull Albiacin area and is close to ALhambra, and short walk to city centre or Plaza Nueva.
Complaints about accomodation:No complaints at all.
Good bars and restaurants:We visited the Alhambra staying for about 4 and a half hours it is a visit worth saving time for. The many tapas bars in the area at the top of the hill were very good value and and had a pleasant welcomig atmosphere it was lovely to sit ouside in the evenings and enjoy tapas. The museo cuevas sacromonte gave us an insight into earlier life in Granada and was very interesting. Even the local mounted police encouraged us to hold their horses so that we could have our photos taken with them. The Internet shop near the Albiacin market was very good and also low priced.
Bad experiences in Granada:We found the small supermarket in the Plaza Nueva a little too exspencive but later found the supermarket in the Albiacin to be very reasonable.
Suggestions:ALLTHOUGH WE WERE NOT WORRIED BY ALL THE CATS IT COULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO WARN PEOPLE THAT THERE CAN BE CATS AROUND IN CASE THEY HAVE ALLERGIES TO THEM. But they did not bother us too much even though they stole my cake one day!!!!!!!

Complaints about accomodation:No complain, it was great. Maybe an extra roll of TP would have been nice!... the place was fabulous regardless.

Complaints about accomodation:It was wonderful and thank you so much for all of your understanding during the volcanic ash truama. We were very exhausted, but loved our little home
Bad experiences in Granada:Yes we would not reccomend going to the tourist booh in Plaza Nueva. They charged us almost double for the arab baths and lots more for the Bono pass, but I was so tired that at that point i just paid.

Good things about accomodation:We loved the house. Compact but plenty of room for the two of us. The view of the Alhambra was an added bonus and the terrace was lovely. By summer it must be stunning! The house is reallly well placed for everything we wanted to visit and we only used the bus on arrival as it was late at night. Walking round the Albacin was a delight as was the Sacromonte.
Complaints about accomodation:We decided not to cook during our short stay but had we wanted to we might have found the two little electric ring a bit frustrating. Otherwise the house was really well equipped.
Good bars and restaurants:Chumberra gardens in the Sacromonte has spectacular views over the Alhambra and no crowds. The cave houses there are fascinating too. Free tapas and a wonderful buzz at Bottega Castanada near Plaza Nueva.
Granadainfo comments:The two vitro-ceramic electric halogen rings are both suitable for a full sized frying pan or saucepan.

Good things about accomodation:We loved it and we even extended our stay by one day, making our stay at our next destination a day shorter. Boabdil House is a real gem - a tiny but very comfortable and quiet place close to everything with a terrific view from the front yard. Most amazingly, the hosts preconsidered any need a traveler might have: everything is prepared in this house for all possible cooking and washing needs (including salt, oil, sugar, garbage bags, soap, washing machine detergent), Internet connection, simple but nice and sturdy furniture etc. etc. It was very comfortable staying there knowing that the hosts would take care of everything you might need.
Complaints about accomodation:Everything was just perfect.
Bad experiences in Granada:We parked our car in the garage recommended by the hosts and were hoping to get a weekly rate, but no attendant was on duty at the moment (it was about midnight) and we were not able to talk to anybody about this rate before we left, even though we waited for a while. When we came back, the garage management refused giving us this rate and wanted to charge us on a daily rate basis, which was much more expensive than we expected. We called the hosts and they were able to negotiate a price which was a split between a weekly and daily rate. When you park, make sure you negotiate your rate and get a correct parking ticket before you leave.

Good things about accomodation:Loved the view from the garden. Convenient locations as bus stop is just a few steps down the street. Very peaceful and quiet. Really appreciated having phone and internet. John and Sarah have done a fantastic job with the web-site, and it's great to be able to look almost anything about the area right on the home page of the computer. We were traveling with our two year old and John and Sarah provided a lovely little sleeping cot for her and a high chair.
Complaints about accomodation:No complaints, sweet little cottage, really enjoyed the little garden/terrace. Keeping the place tidy would have been a bit easier with another sponge and replacement trash bags.
Good bars and restaurants:Mekes, the Moroccan restaurant right on Peso de Haro was exceptional, try the chicken cous cous and the hummus, some of the best we've had. They don't serve alcohol, so you'll have to do without if you go. Took a day trip to Guadix, very interesting if you are into caves.
Bad experiences in Granada:No bad experiences, most people very friendly.
Suggestions:We regret we did not get the Bono Turistico Card, would have been worth our while since we stayed a whole week. The science museum was really wonderful, and a great activity, we went on a day it was too rainy for wandering, but it would have been worthwhile any day.

Good things about accomodation:We walked to the little grocery store, restaurants and even to the Alhambra. We took the local buses into town. It was all very easy. The house had some wonderful things that we weren't expecting like a phone, free internet, a coffee press, enough to make your first cups of coffee, a little box of milk and even a clothes washer with soap pellets. I had brought soap to wash clothes by hand so I didn't use the machine but I sure used the clothes line. We didn't have any problem with mosquitos; maybe it was too hot (the end of July).
Complaints about accomodation:We have no complaints; we loved the Boabdil house. After staying in a hotel in Madrid, we really appreciated the quiteness of the little house and the wonderful patio and the location. The hardest part was getting one of the phones to work to let them know that we were ready to go to the house. We didn't realize that we would simply walk from the phone at the corner to our cute house.
Good bars and restaurants:Walking down the hill and then up the road "Cuesta de los Chinos" (or something like that)was a great way to see the Alhambra. It would have been even better if it hadn't been 100 degrees. The cork board in the house with restaurants and places to see was very helpful, as was their website you can access from the house.
Bad experiences in Granada:I didn't realize that the Spaniards are not that friendly. Comparing them to the people in Central and South America, they are very aloof and not that helpful. We had a problem with "pick pockets" in Madrid but no problem in Granada
Suggestions:We took all public transportation while in Spain. We took a bus to Costa del Sol one day and you can rent a lounge chair with a palm umbrella for 5 Euros for the day. The bus ride is only about an hour. There were a lot of African immigrants on the beach selling dresses, sunglasses, World Cup shirts, beer, water. I wished that I had left some of my shoping and bought more from them. I'm an ESL teacher and worry about the life of our world's immigrants. There were little restaurants on the beach (with bathrooms) too. I was worried about where we would change into our suits but no one is offended with a little flash of skin there. Our biggest problem was that our credit cards were frozen because we forgot to let the company know that we were traveling over seas. They phoned our cell phones which we had left at home since they don't work in Europe. Make sure you contact your Credit Card service with dates before you leave! There are lots of "cajas" for drawing out cash and we never felt unsafe around them.
