This photo doesn't do justice to the scenery.
This is where you can have breakfast.
There is a lovely sound of birdsong and
views of the mountains.

Pitres and other villages
This is the view of the village from the
other side of the valley. There is an
excellent walk which takes about
3 and a half hours. It is possible to see
most of the white villages of La Taja.

There is no crime in the village.

Accommodation
The accommodation is all on the first floor. The long, beamed living room has a wood-burning stove and comfortable seating with a dining area next to the balcony. We have a large collection of modern novels in English (and welcome more).

There are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other has 2 single beds. The beds have sprung mattresses and duvets and we have used local furniture and fabrics to decorate.

The kitchen has a fridge, gas stove (3 burners) and a washing machine. A fairly steep wooden staircase leads to the railed roof terrace.

The bathroom has WC, shower and sink. We supply sheets and towels.

Outside

From the living room there is a south-facing covered balcony with seating and the entire roof has been turned into a terrace for sunbathing or stargazing. There is a table, lounging chairs, barbecue and a large sun wooden umbrella. Several of the local signposted walks along ancient mule trails start just outside the house, which is on the edge of the village.

Shopping and Eating Out

Ferreirola has a daily bread van between 13.00 and 14.00, a fruit van on Tuesday evenings and a fish van on Wednesday mornings. It is only 1km to Mecina which has a family-run bar and restaurant and a vegetarian restaurant. There are many varied and inexpensive restaurants in nearby villages and the bars still give complimentary tapas with wine and beer.

Pitres, 6 km away, has a bank, chemist, baker, supermarket, vegetarian restaurant, bars and a 24-hour health centre (bring form E111). There is a pleasant outdoor swimming pool at the Balcón de Pires campsite.

Visiting the Surrounding Area

Granada with the splendour of the Alhambra is just over an hour away and the beaches of the “Costa Tropical” are even closer.

Serious walkers can scale the Mulhacen (3,482 metres) or Veleta at 3,398. There are also local facilities for mountain biking, horse riding, and flamenco dance and photography classes.

Car Hire
A car is almost essential here although it is possible to reach the village by public transport.

Other notes
Sorry but animals and pets are not allowed

Disabled Access
The house is not suitable for the disabled and the entire area would prove very difficult for anyone with mobility problems.

Further Details

Ferreirola (the village) is part of La Taha de Pitres, a grouping of 7 small villages dating back to the times when the area was occupied by the moors whose architecture and terrace hillsides are very much still part of the landscape. The villages are whitewashed with steep, winding streets where it is still common to see donkeys and shepherds with their flocks passing through.
The area is famous for its mineral water springs, air-dried hams and inexpensive rugs and pottery.
We enjoy over 320 days a year of sunshine and have beautiful spring flowers and blossom as early as February. The autumn and winter months usually bring warm days with crisp nights and the altitude (around 1000 metres) means that it is never unbearably hot in summer.
There are no cars allowed in the narrow streets of Ferreirola and the only sounds are birds or sheep bells.
There are, however, 3 restaurants and a bar within walking distance and a larger village just 6 km away.

The property has a balcony and roof terrace, a spacious book-filled living room, double bedroom leading to a second twin-bedded room, a rustic but well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower, WC and sink and plentiful hot water.

If you would like to use the wood burning stove we can supply you with already cut up olive and home oak wood. The cost of the wood is 6 euros per day.
